{"id":187,"date":"2015-03-22T19:28:33","date_gmt":"2015-03-22T11:28:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?page_id=187"},"modified":"2020-03-18T17:21:08","modified_gmt":"2020-03-18T09:21:08","slug":"about","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?page_id=187","title":{"rendered":"about"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I was born into a family of makers; builders, ships carpenter, a collarmaker, a potter, specialist teachers, manufacturers and the self-employed.<br \/>\nFamily is enormously important to me, both ancestors and current.<br \/>\nContributing to my chosen communities has been a very worthwhile connection.<\/p>\n<p>Working on art, making, and design, in whatever form it takes is innate.<br \/>\nI am very much a space maker\/decorator\/environment changer.<br \/>\nCreatively enhancing my immediate environment is an ever present preoccupation.<br \/>\nConstant learning is a given.<\/p>\n<p>Textiles has always been my ease, my interest.<br \/>\nHistorical pictorial quilts and primitive scrap quilts piqued my interest in quilt-making. Designing and making quilts for my family and home eventually set me on a career path.<\/p>\n<p>Stargazey Quilts patterns, books for C&amp;T and fabric design for Marcus Brothers are what I am best known for. I spent many wonderful years traveling the world &#8211; teaching, promoting, and meeting wonderful people.<\/p>\n<p>When lugging my suitcases lost its appeal I returned to a quieter life of teaching in my studio. \u2028Many of my students grew with me and eventually became part of the memorable <a title=\"Salvage\/Selvedge\" href=\"http:\/\/stargazey.com\/salvagecatalogue\/index.html\">Salvage\/Selvedge<\/a> Community project. Since then I have worked on bringing WAFTA&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/waftatwentyoneplus.com.au\/\">twentyONE+<\/a> juried exhibition to life.<\/p>\n<p>This blog is about the next phase of my life &#8211; living quietly in Perth, Western Australia with my growing family.<br \/>\nNow is time to press refresh.<br \/>\nTime to produce to a new body of work.<br \/>\nAll the while I&#8217;ll be looking back on who I am and where I have come from.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I was born into a family of makers; builders, ships carpenter, a collarmaker, a potter, specialist teachers, manufacturers and the self-employed.
