{"id":1253,"date":"2016-05-17T15:35:55","date_gmt":"2016-05-17T07:35:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1253"},"modified":"2016-05-17T15:35:55","modified_gmt":"2016-05-17T07:35:55","slug":"i-cant-let-it-go","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1253","title":{"rendered":"I can&#8217;t let it go&#8230;."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WEEK NINETEEN (may 9-15)<\/p>\n<p>I can&#8217;t let it go&#8230;.<br \/>\nWhen I wrote last week I was VERY close to giving up on pulling together a piece to enter in OZQUILT&#8217;s AW5 &#8211; even though there are still a couple of weeks till the due date.<br \/>\nI had been flitting from hither to thither with new and old ideas and techniques, all of which failed to launch.<br \/>\nMy head was a whirlpool of ideas held within a pool of indecision.<\/p>\n<p>On Tuesday morn I awoke ready to act\u00a0 *<em>fib alert<\/em> * I was actually awake all night <em>thinking<\/em> about a piece that could feature my current preoccupation\/obsession of stitching paint chips. Morning light simply meant that I needed to fire up to make real those immaculate visions.<\/p>\n<p>Originally I had discounted the paint chips, as I assumed that they may not travel well.<br \/>\nInstead the inspiring\/insistent night voice assured me that with a little tweak things would be okay&#8230;.<br \/>\nSo I was back to paint chips and digital printing <em>primarily because<\/em> both of those areas of exploration I am <em>really<\/em> enjoy working with at the moment. They are part of the story that I eagerly need to continue with.<\/p>\n<p>I picked a pic of an ancient engraving to print &#8211; Victor Victorszoon&#8217;s <em>Swartte Swaane drift op het Eyland Rottenest<\/em> of 1726.<br \/>\nMy printer is a beauty that will allow me to turn out a 40 x 40cm masterpiece &#8211; which was part of the impetus &#8211; clean, seamless, and beautifully detailed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1261\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1.jpg\" alt=\"trial of feathers and print\" width=\"3028\" height=\"2049\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1.jpg 3028w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1-300x203.jpg 300w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1-768x520.jpg 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1-1024x693.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-1-600x406.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3028px) 100vw, 3028px\" \/><\/a>I cut an A2 piece of prepared linen and set up the artwork in InDesign, manipulating lightly. This size was enough to print both the 40 x 40 and another sliver of sky to trial the functionality of the process.<br \/>\nOff and running confidently <em>with fingers crossed<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1262\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2.jpg\" alt=\"trials of feather and print - getting close\" width=\"3153\" height=\"1331\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2.jpg 3153w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2-300x127.jpg 300w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2-768x324.jpg 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2-1024x432.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/05\/week-19-2-600x253.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3153px) 100vw, 3153px\" \/><\/a>Slowly, quietly, the trial piece was worked on to near completion.<br \/>\nI then turned to the &#8216;real&#8217; piece and slowly, quietly, it was worked on in a similar manner.<br \/>\nI had also given myself a deadline &#8211; to stop procrastination and over thinking &#8211; we had a photo shoot booked for next Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>Amongst the slow and quiet of artistic endeavour there was a raft of decisions to be made for twentyONE+. Lots of action culminating in printing and email invites.<\/p>\n<p>It was also a big week with the Grandies which included a first time trek to the Zoo with four of them.<br \/>\n<em>and<\/em><br \/>\nI shouted George and Esther a four week class at Fremantle Art Centre &#8211; a brand new FAC initiative in tiny tots arty exploration.<br \/>\nI hung around outside, (lets be truthful again &#8211;<em> in the cafe:<\/em>) <em>just in case<\/em> Miff needed to hand-pass Flick. Little Ellie spent the 45 minutes touring the exhibitions with her other Gran.<br \/>\nIt is good to be proactive. I want these little ones to grow up feeling as comfortable with art as they already are with books and building and new food experiences and <em>all the things that are important to me. <\/em>Others can add the sporting touches.<em><br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p>A quick over-nighter at our little house was much needed &#8211; I have had a three week gap. A conversation was sorely needed.
