{"id":1503,"date":"2016-07-25T15:34:43","date_gmt":"2016-07-25T07:34:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1503"},"modified":"2016-07-25T15:34:43","modified_gmt":"2016-07-25T07:34:43","slug":"so-what-do-i-want-to-be-now","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1503","title":{"rendered":"so what do I want to be now?"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WEEK TWENTY-NINE (july 18-24)<\/p>\n<p>The start of the week, post sale, feels quite freeing&#8230;my mind wanders around the &#8216;<em>what do I want to be now&#8217;<\/em> territory that I always enjoy at the end of a project.<br \/>\nThe feeling is compounded with the final meeting, the final report tweaking and a lovely celebratory dinner with the twentyONE+ team.<br \/>\nThis project, that has stretched us all, is as good as done &#8211; the only downside being that I will miss catching up regularly with this team that gelled so nicely.<br \/>\nI cannot start another project in the foreseeable future, I need to self nurture and to be available for my family, but the problem solving and the friendship that comes with teamwork will be sorely missed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So what do I want to be now?<\/strong><br \/>\nWhat do I want to spend my time on?<br \/>\nAnd how can I continue to stretch myself and to learn?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1509\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780.png\" alt=\"out of my mind\" width=\"2048\" height=\"1536\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780.png 2048w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780-300x225.png 300w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780-768x576.png 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780-1024x768.png 1024w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/IMG_4780-600x450.png 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2048px) 100vw, 2048px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To help make sense of the near and far future I did commit to a mind map app.<br \/>\nI have needed <em>yet another layer<\/em> of organisation to clear my head and help me to sleep better at night.<br \/>\nI did try to find a &#8216;big picture type app&#8217; to suit me earlier in the year.<br \/>\nWith no success so <em>I turned old school and printed out the year and stuck it on a board.<br \/>\n<\/em>It was not what I wanted but it did serve to scare me as I crossed off the weeks and tore off the months!<br \/>\nBUT<br \/>\nA upstairs board cannot be with me anywhere else but upstairs and I needed <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">an app<\/span> to access whenever my constantly flitting thoughts needed recording or tweaking.<\/p>\n<p>My recent clear out and freshen up of the studio necessitated a fresh look at this need.<br \/>\nWhat I wanted was now refined as I already work well through <strong>ToDoist<\/strong> for daily\/weekly\/longterm tasks and I use <strong>Day One<\/strong> to record what I do plan and do daily.<br \/>\nBoth help me feel like those small tasks <strong>do<\/strong> make a whole.<\/p>\n<p>I still needed SEE the big picture view.<br \/>\nI needed it to be visual\/diagramatic and it needed to work on my ipad only this time.<br \/>\nMy use will be irregular &#8211; as it is a long term planning need &#8211; so I did not want a hefty system with a hefty price.<br \/>\nI settled on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.simpleapps.eu\/simplemind\/touch\">SimpleMind<\/a> for my ipad as it is very simple and intuitive.<br \/>\nSo far I have made three maps, <em>Studio, 2016 &amp; 2017.<br \/>\nEach have been tweaked a few times&#8230;each seem to clear my noggin a little? We will see&#8230;<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1510\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1.jpg\" alt=\"my new favourite cushions\" width=\"3029\" height=\"2272\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1.jpg 3029w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1-300x225.jpg 300w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1-768x576.jpg 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/week-29-1-600x450.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 3029px) 100vw, 3029px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was again a tiny touch of stitch&#8230;.I worked on quilting the three silk cushion fronts between tasks.<br \/>\nThe velour backings from the previous cushions were unpicked &#8211; an unpleasant job &#8211; and slowly I completed all three by working to my deadline.<br \/>\nI loved the original versions but surprisingly these are better&#8230;. I am so glad that these offcuts needed to stay with me.<\/p>\n<p>My foray into getting some classes going has faltered..this morn I cancelled the first one as there were not enough bods to run it. Sad but realistic.<br \/>\nI have put up extra dates, on the menu above and will send them out to my database soon.<br \/>\nThis will see out the year but again, I will not advertise them widely.<br \/>\n<em>I can get by without teaching<\/em> but I yearn to empower, educate and excite others. Salvage\/Selvedge was a forum for what I love doing best&#8230;.perhaps I cooked my own goose in teaching for free for eighteen months?<br \/>\nAlas I cannot afford to do a project like that again.<br \/>\nTwo eighteen-month projects, working gratis, the first with many studio &amp; hosting costs, has not empowered my bank balance&#8230;.<\/p>\n<p>One of my tasks with priority this week was to organise a project that has a hand stitch OR a non-machine element so that I can sit quietly at night and work at slowly.
