{"id":1780,"date":"2016-10-17T16:04:19","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T08:04:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1780"},"modified":"2016-10-18T10:33:51","modified_gmt":"2016-10-18T02:33:51","slug":"planning-to-produce-with-artistic-clarity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/?p=1780","title":{"rendered":"planning to produce with artistic clarity."},"content":{"rendered":"<p>WEEK FORTY-ONE (october 10-16)<\/p>\n<p>The start of this week has me settling back into my usual quiet life&#8230;.. cleaning, clearing, cooking, chores, childminding <em>then<\/em> <strong>optimistically<\/strong> planning to produce with artistic clarity.<\/p>\n<p>I relive my days in Mongolia as I rewrite\/transfer my written diary into my DayOne App. <em>I don&#8217;t have to do it<\/em>, I could leave a gap in the calendar, but it was a great way to re-live and to sign off on that aspect of the trip. It is fiddly work.<br \/>\nI curse the mounting process but I LOVE the stitching.<br \/>\nAfter it has dried I tease out the threads and in a moment of distraction I pull an errant thread too hard. A rip. I will replace this paint chip &#8211; even though the tear is minimal &#8211; I can&#8217;t not&#8230;. <em>but I am out of that colour<\/em>.<br \/>\nThis mistake will hang over me until it is re-done. I can&#8217;t sign off on it, name it or number it until I do.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1789\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6.jpg\" alt=\"grey feathers\" width=\"2448\" height=\"2448\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6.jpg 2448w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6-150x150.jpg 150w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6-300x300.jpg 300w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6-768x768.jpg 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6-1024x1024.jpg 1024w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-6-600x600.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2448px) 100vw, 2448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I still have one set of paint chip feathers waiting for a mount but meantime I need to move direction slightly and continue on\/complete some other feathering variations.<br \/>\nThe work-in-progress boxes are opened and spread.<br \/>\nThe notebooks and sketches are leafed through.<br \/>\nWill I work with Laminex feathers, real feathers?<br \/>\nWill I start afresh or continue on?<br \/>\nI <em>try<\/em> to choose the next fork in this path but it is not easy.<br \/>\nI need to get back into the perfect head-space.<br \/>\nI need to have a clear vision.<br \/>\n<em>What I need to do next are the works that I am itching for the most<\/em>&#8230;&#8230;show yourselves please!!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1790\" src=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41.jpg\" alt=\"searching for clarity...in real feathers\" width=\"2448\" height=\"3264\" srcset=\"http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41.jpg 2448w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-225x300.jpg 225w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-768x1024.jpg 768w, http:\/\/janmullen.com.au\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/week-41-600x800.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 2448px) 100vw, 2448px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>To ignore these quandaries I move my mind back again to Mongolia and start on the processing of my photos.<br \/>\nI have, for the first time, in museums and galleries where light is minimal, taken many photos\u00a0on <em>shutter priority mode.\u00a0<\/em> I am apprehensive because when shooting they look almost totally black BUT the other option is a stack of blurry photos.<br \/>\nMy crossed fingers are slowly pried apart and I feel my gamble has paid off.<br \/>\nMost are fine <em>with the only downside being <\/em>a certain graininess and the time needed to &#8216;resuscitate&#8217; them.<\/p>\n<p><em>Still<\/em> ignoring, <em>OR<\/em> moving around my artworks-in-progress, I try to complete a few more &#8216;bearded&#8217; paint-chip drawings&#8230;.I&#8217;m not in the head space for that either so there are only a couple of decent hirsute fellas to go onto the board.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday I set off to Fremantle Art Centre to view the Print Awards.<br \/>\nAs always there are some beautiful pieces, some challenging pieces, some why bothers?<br \/>\nI had planned to sit and think and write over a coffee whilst dissecting my thoughts&#8230;.disappointingly I felt no need today.<br \/>\nInstead my noggin continues searching for THE pathway with the feathered pieces &#8230;.I think I am on my way but instead of sampling and diving in I again remove myself &#8211; This juried selection of forty works measuring 40cm by 40cm will tour Australia for the next couple of years. I am a first time entrant as the format has never suited\/inspired me. The few artists present also talked about their work.<br \/>\nIt was one of the best sessions I have attended of late&#8230;informative, generous and Margery showed great skill in making links and pushing the conversations forward into interesting ground. It has been an age since I awoke in Perth on a Sunday morn and I decided that a 12 hour roast was needed. Unfortunately, with Sunday night meals starting at a child friendly 5pm, that meant that the marinated lamb shoulder was shoved in the oven at 5am.<\/p>\n<p>Being home also gave me a chance to (over)fill my fridge with market veg and to gather in treats like freshly baked Turkish bread.
